Book Review of Break Your Self Help Addiction by Brian D. Ridgway

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. I share well-written books. I highlight what makes each good from the reader’s perspective, and reveal what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers. This time, it's a nonfiction self-help book titled Break Your Self-Help Addiction: The 5 Keys to Total Personal Freedom by Brian D. Ridgway.

Break Your Self-Help Addiction by Brian D. Ridgway is a book to be EXPERIENCED, not just read.

-- Ronda Del Boccio, #1 best selling author & speaker

Here's the book info from Amazon.

Break Your Self-Help Addiction by Brian D. Ridgway

Break Your Self Help Addiction: The 5 Keys to Total Personal Freedom by Brian D. Ridgway

Stop Working on Yourself. Step Into True Freedom. Today.

What if self-improvement is booby-trapped?

And what if there is actually a way to change your life – in all areas, all at once – by finding and shifting the ONE hidden issue that has been creating all of the stuckness all along.

Coming out of an abusive childhood and then living with the outcomes of that on-going pain, the author invested over $300,000, 30+ years and tens of thousands of hours on self-help, personal development, and business/money/success courses – as his life got worse and worse.

Finding himself homeless, desperate, suicidal, and stuck, he experienced an awakening that took him from homeless to living the dream in Hawaii in less than 90 days. In that awakening, he was given the Level 5 Paradigm.

Since that “miracle moment,” he has been able to help people around the world to take their first steps into true freedom.

Break Your Self-Help Addiction: The 5 Keys to Total Personal Freedom will help you to:

Access your Infinite Intelligence, Limitless Power and Ever-Present Guidance

“Shake off” chronic anger, sadness and fear in seconds.

Spot and dissolve the “hidden lie” in the majority of self-improvement work.

End the cycle of hope > investment > disappointment of self-help junkiedom.

Eliminate "the illusion of problems."

Get permanently “unstuck” and begin to consciously create the body, health, business, wealth, relationships, life and world of your dreams.

Is this just another self-help book?

Any book's value is in the eye nad mind of the beholder. I'm someone who has been into self development since my first set of Nightingale-Conant cassette tapes back in the 80s. While I definitely gain insights from everything I read (whether self-help or not), I have to say Brian D. Ridgway's approach is top notch.

My Real-Life Miracle Thanks to Brian Ridgway

I've been familiar with Brian for a few years now. I invested in his first online mentoring program. What I found back then and since with his Level 5 Mentoring is that I was able to uncover and clear hidden beliefs and blocks I didn't even know were there. I've made overnight changes in a relationship with a family member that had been challenging for 30 years. That was downright miraculous to me, and it was all aobut me cutting through STUFF. His teachings helped me more than anyone else's in that situation.

So imagine how happy I was to see that he finally (after some strong nudges from me over the years) published his first book. I don't hand out 5-star reviews lightly. Look at them and you'll see some low stars amongst them...

What Makes  Break Your Self-Help Addiction a worthy read?

Amazon Changes Review Policies

I've done a lot of product and book reviews. I used to HAVE to disclose it if I received a discounted or free product in exchange for a review. Now, that's a no-no. The review clubs like Giveaway Service and Tomoson also seem to be forbidden too, though I still get offers from them.

Yep...Recently, Amazon just made a GIGANTIC change to their review policies. They didn't change it for books, but they did for anything else. Now, you can't get a free or reduced price item in exchange for an honest review (except a book).

wow2

Here is some of the language from their policies. Full link follows:

Promotions and Commercial Solicitations

In order to preserve the integrity of Community content, content and activities consisting of advertising, promotion, or solicitation (whether direct or indirect) is not allowed, including:

  • Creating, modifying, or posting content regarding your (or your relative's, close friend's, business associate's, or employer's) products or services.
  • Creating, modifying, or posting content regarding your competitors' products or services.
  • Creating, modifying, or posting content in exchange for compensation of any kind (including free or discounted products) or on behalf of anyone else.
  • Offering compensation or requesting compensation (including free or discounted products) in exchange for creating, modifying, or posting content.
  • Posting advertisements or solicitations, including URLs with referrer tags or affiliate codes.

The only exceptions are:

  • You may post content requested by Amazon (such as Customer Reviews of products you purchased on Amazon or received through the Vine program, and answers requested through Questions and Answers). In those cases, your content must comply with any additional guidelines specified by Amazon.
  • You may post an answer to a question asked through the Questions and Answers feature (but not a question itself) regarding products or services for which you have a financial or close personal connection to the brand, seller, author, or artist, but only if you clearly and conspicuously disclose the connection (e.g., "I represent the brand for this product."). We automatically label some answers from sellers or manufacturers, in which case additional disclosure is not necessary.
  • You may post content other than Customer Reviews and Questions and Answers regarding products or services for which you have a financial or close personal connection to the brand, seller, author, or artist, but only if you clearly and conspicuously disclose the connection (e.g., "I was paid for this post."). However, no brand or business may participate in the Community in a way (including by advertising, special offers, or any other "call to action") that diverts Amazon customers to another non-Amazon website, service, application, or channel for the purpose of conducting marketing or sales transactions. Content posted through brand, seller, author, or artist accounts regarding their own products or services does not require additional labeling.

Book authors and publishers may continue to provide free or discounted copies of their books to readers, as long as the author or publisher does not require a review in exchange or attempt to influence the review.

For more information and examples, read About Promotional Content.

Read the original article source here.

Here's more about promotional content:

About Promotional Content

In order to preserve the integrity of Community content, promotional content - i.e., an endorsement by someone with a financial or close personal connection to what they're endorsing - is only allowed in limited circumstances, and must always be clearly and conspicuously disclosed as promotional content if not obvious from the context.

Because Customer Reviews and Questions and Answers are meant to give customers genuine product feedback from fellow shoppers, different guidelines apply to those features. The guidelines and examples below supplement our Community Guidelines regarding promotional content.

Promotional Content in Customer Reviews

Our goal is to capture all the energy, enthusiasm, and feedback (both favorable and critical) that customers have about a product while avoiding use of reviews to advertise, promote, or mislead.

To help illustrate, here are a few examples of reviews that we don't allow:

  • A product brand posts a review of their own product
  • A customer posts a review in exchange for cash, a free or discounted product, a gift certificate, or a discount off a future purchase provided by a third party
  • A customer posts a review in exchange for entry into a contest or sweepstakes or membership in a program
  • A customer posts a review of a game in exchange for bonus in-game content or credits
  • A relative, close friend, business associate, or employee of the product creator posts a review to help boost sales
  • A customer posts a review of the product after being promised a refund in exchange for the review
  • A seller posts negative reviews about a competitor's product
  • An author posts a positive review about a peer's book in exchange for receiving a positive review from the peer

Although products may be provided to customers for free or at a discount, and those customers may write reviews, any attempt to influence or manipulate reviews is prohibited, including conditioning any future benefit on writing a review or the content of the review. Benefits include but are not limited to: future opportunities to receive free or discounted products, continued membership in a program or club, cash rebates or gift certificates, entry into contests or sweepstakes, bonus digital content or credits, and ratings or referrals that may affect the recipient's chances of receiving other benefits.

Here are a few examples where a review is not permitted:

  • The customer's eligibility to receive free or discounted products or other benefits in the future depends on their review
  • The customer's continued membership in a program or club depends on their review
  • The customer is a member of a review club where sellers or brands give the customer ratings or refer the customer to other sellers or brands based on their review
  • The customer is a member of a review club where they are asked to register their Amazon public profile so that sellers or brands may monitor their reviews of products offered through the club

The following reviews are generally allowed, provided they comply with the above guidelines:

  • A customer writes a review of a product purchased using a discount generally available to all Amazon customers, such as a Lightning Deal.
  • A customer writes a review of a product received for free at a trade show, convention, or other similar venue where the provider does not monitor whether the customer writes a review or condition any benefits on writing a review or the content of the review.

Although promotional content is restricted in Customer Reviews and Questions and Answers as described above, there are other ways in which products may be promoted to customers. In all cases, the poster must clearly and conspicuously disclose their financial or close personal connection if not obvious from the context.

To help illustrate, here are a few examples:

  • An author or publisher may post content in the book description, About the Author, and Editorial Reviews sections of the product detail page. To learn more about these features, visit Author Central. In this case, no additional disclosure is necessary.
  • An author, artist, seller, or brand may submit content regarding their own products to their followers using their official account. In this case, the connection between the poster and the products is obvious, so no additional disclosure is necessary.
  • A relative of an author may submit content to their followers as long as their relationship with the author is disclosed in the content (e.g., "Check out my spouse's new book!").
  • Anyone may submit content to their followers in exchange for compensation as long as it is clearly and conspicuously disclosed (e.g., "I was paid for this post", "I received this product for free in exchange for this post").
  • Anyone may post comments on Customer Reviews or Questions and Answers as long as any financial or close personal connection to the product is clearly and conspicuously disclosed.
  • Eligible vendors and authors may use Amazon Marketing Services to promote their products through Amazon Pages, Product Display Ads, Headline Search Ads, and Sponsored Products, subject to those programs' requirements.

BLISSful Life: 3 Small Changes that Freshen Up Your Space

My home will never make it to a magazine spread, and that's fine. Jemma's dog toys are everywhere. Two blankets adorn the couch, ready to warm the chilled. Interesting geodes rest on the windowsills. I often burn incense or use a plug-in light with scent (by Joy Mangano). Dog hair festoons everything, because there's just no way to shellac my golden retriever's hair to her body and keep those magical fibers of love and joy from floating everywhere. (sigh). She's worth it, though.

Nothing fancy. Universally, people who come to my home comment, "I feel so comfortable and at ease here." That's better than the cover of any magazine for me, because that is how I want my living space to feel, both to me and to visitors. Comfy is good.

Here are 3 ideas for freshening up your space and making it delightful so you can have a BLISSful life. Continue reading "BLISSful Life: 3 Small Changes that Freshen Up Your Space"

Book Review of Jewish Historical Fiction Novel Please Say Kaddish for Me by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. I share well-written books. I highlight what makes each good from the reader’s perspective, and reveal what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers. This time, it's a Jewish historical novel called Please Say Kaddish for Me by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields.

The author describes this book as "The dark side of Fiddler on the Roof." This is the perfect elevator pitch for the historical tale set in czarist Russia at the turn of the 20th Century. Here is the description from Amazon:

Please Say Kaddish for Me by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields

Jewish persecution under Russian Czar

1899 Russia under the cruel Czarist rule is not a good place to be a Jew!

cover of Please Say Kaddish for Me by Rochelle Wisoff-FieldsRussia under the diabolical Czarist rule is a very bad place and a very bad time to be a Jew. Fair game to marauding peasants and government militia alike, the random slaughter of entire Jewish families is commonplace rather than a rare occurrence. It is, however, a time for brave men. And brave women.

Barefoot, wearing only a flimsy nightgown, sixteen-year-old Havah Cohen alone escapes the brutal massacre by the Czarist tyranny that destroys her home and slaughters her family on a frigid November night in 1899.

Love ignited, lost and found, insurmountable struggles and challenges, Kishinev's Jewish pogroms and all odds against them, Havah and her soul mate, Arel, withstand the storms of life in this unforgettable story of a time and place rarely spoken of, and romance and courage so profound as to be rarely experienced.

While I read more paranormal, fantasy and suspense, I enjoy historical fiction, because I gain insight into another era in a way that my boring history classes in school never conveyed.

What made Please Say Kaddish for Me a great story, and what can authors learn by reading it? Continue reading "Book Review of Jewish Historical Fiction Novel Please Say Kaddish for Me by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields"

Happiness Is a Hot Cup of Coffee

Coffee is part of my blissful life. You can watch for and use the hashtag #BLISSfulLife to experience awesomeness.

I love a good cup of coffee. I enjoy being able to sit on my screened-in deck with beautiful Jemma dog beside me on her cushion and birds singing all around me.

While I'm writing, I require coffee. It helps me stay in the flow.

Morning ritual: coffee outside in the conference room

Coffee is not about the caffeine. It's about the palate. The taste. The smell. The experience. Drinking coffee is a delightful gestalt of pleasant experiences.

BLISS Coffee Mug from Zazzle

For my morning deck coffee, I'm content with the Follow your BLISS mug with butterflies, because I'm drinking the brew straight away. It cools off some, but I finish before it's cold.

WHile writing, I get really annoyed when I go for a sip and the delightful beverage is cold. Sure, I can use the microwave, but then I have a couple warm sips and it cools off again before I want more. Plus I don't like irradiating my food. As is, I only use my microwave for things like warming coffee, and it's in shock on those few occasions I ask it to work.

SO I decided perhaps a thermal mug is the answer for writing coffee. Just then, I received an offer to review a Liquid Savvy 18 oz thermal container at a steep discount in exchange for an honest review. I love it when that happens!

I've been giving the mug a workout with things like coffee and lemonade. Did this do the trick? Continue reading "Happiness Is a Hot Cup of Coffee"

This time, it's a science fiction thriller series called Mind Dimensions Omnibus by Dima Zales.

Book Review of Cozy Mystery Moonlight Can Be Murder: A Ned McNeil Mystery by Blanche Manos

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. I share well-written books. I highlight what makes each good from the reader’s perspective, and reveal what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers. This time, it's a cozy mystery by Blanche Manos titled, Moonlight Can Be Murder: A Ned McNeil Mystery.

This is one of the better cozies I have read. You'll find out why shortly. First, have a look at the book cover and description.

Moonlight Can Be Murder: A Ned McNeil Mystery. by Blanche Manos

Nettie "Ned" McNeil cannot imagine why her Uncle Cover of Moonlight Can Be Murder Cozy Mystery: A Ned McNeil Mystery by Blanche ManosJavin feels that he is in danger, but she loads her suitcases into her car, leaves Atlanta and her late husband, and makes the long trek to Ednalee, Oklahoma, to help out. When she arrives, Uncle Javin's white Victorian house is strangely dark and silent.

Inside she finds him lying on the floor in a pool of blood. So begin her first moments back in her old home town, where the mystery of Uncle Javin's violent death pulls at Ned. But his mysterious murderer seems to always be just a few steps ahead of her search. How can she protect her own life as she pursues a killer who will stop at nothing to guard a deadly secret?

I like cozies, because they're suspenseful tales about people being thrown into difficult circumstances. Sure, there's a dead body, but without the gore of true crime mysteries. What else makes this a good read?

Book Review of Urban fiction Novel The Middle Step by Denise Pattiz Bogard

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. I review  well-written books, highlighting what makes each good from the reader’s perspective and what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers.

I will honestly say that I don't read a whole lot of mundane books. By that I mean books set in the real world in ordinary times. I read a lot of fantasy, suspense, cozy mystery, thrillers and the like. I generally like to try on new realities better than delving into the gritty underbelly of this one.

That said, I also like to read a variety of genres, and I make it a point to read a few each year that are far outside my norm. I can always gain insights into life, try out new authors, glean new perspectives, and hopefully learn something from the writing that helps me hone my own craft.

So before I share my review along with a few hints for authors, here is more about the book., starting with the help wanted ad that opens it:

"HELP WNTED:

A woman to live with and care for four teenage girls in a residential home, to serve as foster mom and guide the girls through the academic and emotional challenges of high school. Master's in Social Work preferred."

- Excerpt from The Middle Step by Denise Pattiz Bogard

The Middle Step by Denise Pattiz Bogard

The Middle Step by Denise Pattiz BogardThe Middle Step is set in an inner city community just outside of St. Louis. It's a place where religion and race and poverty and lack of education all converge. The headlines don't often describe how these things can cause life to be difficult for the youth trying to grow up among such strife. Denise Pattiz Bogard tells a wonderful fiction story about what life is like inside the confining borders of the inner city.

6 Divine Principles of Success: The Sacred Tree of Life and the Secret of Empire Builders by Zohar (Radiance) Halevi

What are the six divine principles of success?

This book reveals for the first time a sacred and over 2000-year-old system for personal and economic growth, based on six principles from the divine tree of life. It shows that these six principles are common to the endeavors of empire builders such as Bill Gates, the Roman founder Emperor Augustus, and the biblical King David. As such, they are a unique formula to great financial success.

The contents of this book have been tried and tested with great success by a variety of groups prior to publishing. Businessmen and senior officials of more than four groups which have implemented these principles mention the following benefits:

• Allows you to better read both client and company interests.

• The six principles together will help you create a bigger sum than its parts, allowing a more efficient and profitable economic performance with moderate growth.

• Provides tools to improve relationships and increase business partnerships.

• Improves performance and reduces the working day. And as we know - time is money.

• Improves the quality and delivery speed of products and services.

• Maintains business and personal development success, as well as relevance in changing market conditions, and the lead in various sectors.

• Enhances constructive pleasure and builds positive energy.

• Brings you a few steps closer to the "American dream."
“I have been surprised and delighted by the ability of this book to enrich my life.” -  Keren Peled

Book Review of Moonlight A Fairytale Retelling by Ann Hunter

Moonlight-by-Ann-HunterWelcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. I review  well-written books, highlighting what makes each good from the reader’s perspective and what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers.

Last week, I reviewed The Subtle Beauty by Ann Hunter. This week I'm reviewing a prequel novella in the Crowns of the Twelve series called Moonlight. As before, I received a free Kindle copy of the book in exchange for my honest book review on several social networks and my site.

Moonlight is a retelling of the swan princess fairy tale. Here is he info from Amazon:

Book Review of YA Paranormal Fantasy Romance The Subtle Beauty Crowns of the Twelve Book 1) by Ann Hunter

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. I review well-written books, highlighting what makes each good from the reader’s perspective and what writing skills and techniques make it a worthy read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers.

I want to adore every book I read, but that is never possible. I was given a complimentary Kindle copy in exchange for an honest review, and I am living up to my agreement in sharing this review on my site.

Today's book gets a mixed review from me. Some elements of Ann Hunter's writing and storytelling are skillful, but  Others, for me, not so much. I shall share what worked for me and what did not in this reworking of Beauty and the Beast.

The Subtle Beauty: Crowns of the Twelve Book 1 by Ann Hunter

Cover of The Subtle Beauty (Crowns of the Twelve BOok 1) by Ann Hunter displayed on my iPad #CrownsOfTheTwelveA cursed prince. A vain beauty. Glory is the seventh daughter of Balthazar, High King of the Twelve Kingdoms. Glory hopes that - of all her sisters - she can escape the fate of a loveless marriage. But on the night she plans to elope with the royal falconer, her world comes crashing down: Her father announces Glory's betrothal to Eoghan of the Blood Realm - a prince no one has ever seen. The prince is said to be a recluse, cursed and deformed by the gods for the sins of his power-hungry father. Yet when Glory is trapped in Blackthorn Keep she discovers that not everything is what she expected. An insulting gryphon, a persistent ghost, and a secret plan to usurp the prince keep Glory reeling. Can she overcome her vanity to learn that what you want isn’t necessarily what you need—and save the cursed prince?

Now, no book is "perfect," whatever that may be. No such thing. Any book might be strong in some areas and not so much in others. I read as a writer who learns from how the book author applies skill (or fails to do so), and as a reader who loves to get swept deep into a captivating other world.

So what aspects of the book did I find enjoyable, and which turned me off?

Book Review of First Maggie Storm Blue Cozy Mystery Uncultured Pearl by Sherrill M. Lewis

UPDATE: I just learned that the author Sherrill Lewis died January 27, 2016 after a long battle with ALS.

Sherrill Lewis

I never knew her, but here is what Kimberly Pennell said about her: "Her husband said her two goals in life toward the end were to see all her far-flung kids and finish the 4th book in the series. She got both and died the day after finishing the book. (shiver)"

Shiver indeed! She definitely stayed around to finish what she had set out to do. I loved this book and will read the rest in the series. Now, on to the review.

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. I review  well-written books, highlighting what makes each good from the reader’s perspective and what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers.

I love cozy mysteries, and today's review is a cozy with a touch of romance.  It is a hint of romance and not graphic, thus safe for younger or more sensitive readers. I am not a fan of graphic intimacy myself.

The way I encountered this book is because I read unsolicited submissions for a publisher, and Ms. Lewis submitted her book. I suppose I outed her by telling the publisher her books are all self published and available on Amazon.

I started reading the portion of  Uncultured Pearl she submitted to the publisher and was unhappy to run out of pages. So I used my handy-dandy Kindle Unlimited subscription to read the whole book.

I typically don't review self-published books. There are a lot of bad ones, since it's free and easy to publish. I enjoyed this book a lot,, though, and there are some good teaching points for authors in what I shall share as well.

Yes, I know a commercially published book can be bad too, but at least it has seen editors. It's more likely to be not for my taste VS awful and full of errors.

OK so, here's the info about the book:

Uncultured Pearl (Maggie Storm Blue Mystery Book 1) by Sherrill Lewis

This week's review is a paranormal romance that's more about the dead than the living. It's called At the Corner of Magnetic and Main by Meg Welch Dendler. THe publisher puts this book in their mainstream category. I'd call it magical realism or paranormal, as it is about ghosts/spirits.

Book Review of Humorous Paranormal Dog Tale Twilight Bone byDevin O’Branagan

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. Each week, I review a well-written book, highlighting what makes it good from the reader’s perspective and what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers.

This week, I'm reviewing a fun and touching book told from the point of view of show dog Tally. This book has certainly gone to the dogs. O'Branagan anthropomorphizes dogs, and I often don't like when authors do that. You'll find out if this is an exception shortly. Here is the description:

Twilight Bone by Devin O'Branagan

The Twilight Bone: The Show Dog Diaries, Book 1, by Devin O'Branagan

In this tale of the paranormal, Talisman the Australian Shepherd is a feisty, young show dog with psychic gifts who is called upon to ghostbust at a prestigious dog show. In this humorous novella, Tali must deal with star-crossed love and a terrifying ghost haunting the dog show she is attending. Book Review of Finding the Buddha by Eddie Tafoya

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. Each week, I review a well-written book, highlighting what makes it good from the reader’s perspective and what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers.

Interesting story behind me reviewing this book: I had a chance to read it before Mr. Tafoya had found a publisher. I was reading "slushies" (aka slush pile submissions or open submissions for a publisher. When I read the start of this book, I HAD to read the whole thing, and once I did that, I recommended they snatch it up.

Why?

  1. Superior writing.
  2. Excellent storytelling.
  3. Keen understanding of comedy.
  4. Insights into human nature.
  5. Top-notch author platform..

Finding the Buddha by Eddie Tafoya

Finding the Buddha by Eddie Tafoya

A dark story of genius, friendship and stand-up comedy. A mysterious man with a Midas touch delights the world but still seeks release from his own personal nightmare.

Mark Wladika can do just about anything. As a high school sophomore, he demonstrates an uncanny grasp of quantum physics. As a young Marine, he is a master of hand-to-hand combat, capable of taking out men twice his size with a single blow. He is a cosmologist, a philosopher, an observer of the human condition, and-unbeknownst to anyone-a man plagued by sorrow, loss, and deep longing.

One day, Wladika directs his genius to the art of stand-up comedy, and by doing so brings a new sense of hope to lackluster Albuquerque, New Mexico. As his fame grows, comedians, comedy aficionados, and businessmen alike believe that Wladika can transform the city, so much so that it will soon become to comedy what Chicago is to the blues, what New Orleans is to jazz, and what Hollywood is to movies.

Finding the Buddha is told through the voices of six characters whose lives the comic profoundly affects. Each hopes to benefit from the Midas touch of the mysterious genius who rockets toward the top of the comedy world, unaware that he doesn't care about fame or fortune—he's on a quest.

Praise for Finding the Buddha

Go read Finding the Buddha.
. . . The damned thing made me cry several times. At one point I closed the book because I had to absorb what I had just read. (You'll know the part.) Anyone interested in phenomenology will also appreciate this text. Underneath the comedy (or maybe because of the comedy . . . I'm still trying to figure that out) is an inquisition into existence and finding happiness.

Book Review of Historical Fiction Novel Ridgeline by Pamela Foster

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review.  Each time, I review a well-written book, highlighting what makes it good from the reader’s perspective and what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers. I was on hiatus for a while because I traveled to Leader Dogs for the Blind in Michigan to train with my new guide dog. We have been home for a short while, and I'm back to writing

This week, I'm sharing Ridgeline, a historical fiction novel by an excellent writer, Pamela Foster.

I've reviewed another of her books,

Ridgeline

Ridgeline - a historical novel by Pamela Foster

Book Description

Book One of The Long Journey Home Series

by Pamela Foster

Jeremiah Jones set off to war, a boy full of pride and ignorance, seeking glory and to prove his manhood. That boy never returned. Wounded to the depths of his soul, Jeremiah clung to sanity only by holding tight to the memory of Maggie, the girl he'd loved since the first time he saw her in his father's church. But Maggie had married another.

His soul seeking peace, but his warrior's heart wanting only battle, Jeremiah's mind is caught in the middle, between heaven and hell. Though he rides the saddle-preacher circuit, bringing the word of the Lord to all who'll listen, inside rages the killing beast that war birthed within him. The only ones he can count on are two ghosts; the first two men – but not the last – who tried to stand against him. Tried, and failed.

Cold company indeed, for that long journey home.
