You’l even get an idea for adding spark to your book with handmade cards. #WritingConference #WritingInspiration #ThePeaceSeed #cardmaking #papercrafting

No matter where you live, there's probably a group for writers. I highly recommend being involved, as it will inspire you and give you a kick in the seat to sit down and write. This month my regional group, Ozarks Writers League,  hosts our quarterly conference. The theme this time is "Writing Inspired."

Sometimes I am super excited about the speakers. Sometimes, not. But I still go. I've been surprised more than once by how interesting and relevant  subject ended up being for me.

Even if the topics at your local conference don't excite you, go anyway. It's a great way to connect with others who engage in that mostly solitary act of writing. If you have books, you may be able to have a book table. I will have copies of my best selling peace book The Peace Seed. I've donated 1500 of these little books to prisons to hopefully bring some peace and unity to troubled people.

Here's a photo of the handmade card. You can follow me on Instagram too!

If you're in the Branson area, come join us at the Honeysuckle Inn Saturday, Nov. 19th. Jemma and I will be there.

Here are the speakers:

Ronda Del Boccio, Now Award-Winning ARTIST

I, Ronda Del Boccio, a mostly blind author, am not an award-winning artist. See the winning work and find out more about the contest in this post. #BLISSfulLife

Having a BLISSful life means doing what you love to do, whether as a hobby or as your vocation. I am so grateful to do both. I adore writing, and I also enjoy singing and creating art. Being around animals and good friends are also a big part of my bliss, and I get those too!

I've never entered an art contest before now. I entered the Ozarks Writers League Art and Photography Contest this year. We had a number of excellent entries, and I am honored to be among the winners.

I guess I should point out that I'm mostly blind, so when I paint, my face is VERY close to my work. I entered a couple pieces made with Sculpey clay and painted, a candle that I made and painted the glass, and an incense burner.

Here is my prize-winning suncatcher.

Welcome back to another Write On Purpose book review. Each week, I review a well-written book, highlighting what makes it good from the reader’s perspective and what writing skills and techniques make it an irresistible read. Thus, each review serves both writers and readers.

This week's excellent read is a collection of southern short stories called Washed in the Water: Tales from the South by Nancy Hartney

Washed in the Water: Tales from the South by Nancy Hartney

I like a good short story collection. Sometimes I want to read something that won't require a lot of time to read. Sometimes I don't want to dive into the world of a novel. Plus, I can sample an author and decide quickly whether I like their style.

Washed in the Water: Tales from the South contains 7 stories. Grab a glass of sweet tea and get ready to journey to the deep south into the lives of people who live and work hard.

Ozarks Writers League Cancels Ronda Del Boccio Presentation on Social Media for Authors at the Last Minute

The Ozarks Writers League canceled my social media presentation. Details on that and how to attend a web event to help you make social media easy. #SocialMediaForAuthors #SocialMediaMarketing #OzarksWriters #WomensRightToWrite

I was scheduled to give a presentation titled "Social Media Quickie for Authors: Get in - Get Done - and Get Back to Writing" at the Ozarks Writers League (OWL) quarterly conference at Ozarks Technical Community College in Hollister, Missouri this morning (Feb. 21, 2015).

canceled

I got a message just after 8 this morning from past president Karen Nelson that the president, Casey Cowan, asked her to inform me my presentation was canceled.

While nasty weather conditions exist, nobody called, texted, emailed or otherwise messaged to ask whether I would be able to make it. Since I live in the area, I did not choose to stay at the hotel. As a blind non-driver, I had arranged transportation and was fully prepared to give the interactive presentation I had spent considerable time and energy preparing..

The schedule was reorganized for a delayed start time and supposedly "abbreviated." Interestingly, one talk was ADDED to the event.

Nonfiction author Karen Nelson is doing an unscheduled talk about characters. She describes herself on her website as: "a writer and teacher in Southwest Missouri, specializing in educational and nonfiction works. "

From the rearranged and "abbreviated "schedule:

 2:15 - 3:00 - Session 2

  •   (planned) Velda Brotherton - "You're Never Too Old For Love"
  • (planned)    Pam Foster - Critique Group
  • (NEW!  Karen Nelson - "Creative Characters"

While the official reason will be weather, the late start and the perceived necessity to use the speakers who were on-site, the addition of an unplanned talk in this scaled-back schedule appears suspicious.

Numerous OWL members attending the conference expressed excitement over getting help from me with their social media.

Could some more sinister forces be at play? ou decide.

3 Board Members Resign on same Day

On a related note, I was a board member until I resigned last week over a variety of issues, including  bullying, censorship and abuse of leadership.  OWL is a 501(c)3  organization subject to all the laws and legalities of any nonprofit. Three board members all resigned within an hour over these issues.

Ozarks Writers League Conference Kicked Out of Private Christian College for Planned Sex Talks

OWL got kicked out of its 30-year meeting place at College of the Ozarks, a private Christian college because of the racy nature of some of the workshops.  While some of the League leadership called it censorship,  the college is privately funded and not subject to the same regulations as publicly funded colleges.

I say their house, their rules. I don't blame C of O one bit. I did not approve the topics and was not involved in the process of finding speakers or naming their talks. Had this been passed through the entire board VS a subset, the negative publicity could potentially have been averted.

Though I was supposedly the Publicity Coordinator, the president and his chosen did not involve me or some other board members in any of the planning of speakers, topics, or response to the College of the Ozarks decision.

Thankfully, with the ease of technology and the fact I have the tools available, nobody has to miss out on getting help!

Ronda del Boccio Wins 4 Fiction Prizes: NaNoWriMo Day 14

This exciting day rewarded me for my writing efforts. I found out I won some contests. I also give an update on the novel, They All Died Smiling.

Entering writing  contests is a great way to get an adrenaline rush. Well, it is at the award ceremony. It's good to put your work up against others'.

There's no finish line or objective measure, so winning or not winning feels arbitrary to some extent, yet having those placements is good to add to your writing credits.

Contest Winnings!

Today I was at the awards ceremony for Ozarks Writers League, and I am thrilled to announce that I won 4 contests for my fiction. It feels WONDERFUL to receive cash awards for my stories.

"Hillbilly Heaven" won the Gene Anderack Short Story Contest

"She Had a Curfew...I Had a Van" took third place in the Genre Straddler Contest. that means a story that combines two genres. THis one's paranormal romance.

"Welcome to Haven" took second in the Flash Fiction 99 Word Story Contest. This was a very short horror story.

"Welcome to OWL" took first in the Hoot & Hollar Contest. This tale elated an experience I had welcome a prospective member to the Ozarks Writers League.

I am so incredibly excited! Stunned, too. My writer friends aren't, but since there's no objective measure, it always feels like a playing a game of chance.

Update on my progress with They All Died Smiling, my NaNoWriMo project.

Meanwhile, I made a little progress on the novel today, as I wasn't home much. Tomorrow as well will be a light writing day, so I'm glad to be ahead on my goal!

I'm approaching the halfway point in the book.

Keep writing!
