Self Mastery Weekly Focus: Presence, 22-28 January, 2017

Each week, I choose a focus of intention, and this week, it's presence..

I post my word in my planner just below the calendar. As I use it throughout the week, y word is right there for me. It helps me keep my intention in my awareness.

self-mastery-presenceAs I go through my week, I will put my attention upon being present - on being where I am when I'm there and not letting my thoughts wander elsewhere.

Have you ever had a focus word for the week? How has it worked for you?

Live the Plan: 2 Easy Ways to Boost Motivation

I've had such a good time using a paper planner, decorating it with fun stickers, and being creative while I stay on task. But I recently discovered that a lot of people who ove creating a plan fall short on living the plan.

I'm a "plantser." Yes, I plan some things, but I can't be rigid. It just isn't in my nature. I'm also a "pantser" going by the seat of my pants. I think you can be both and have a super happy life, somewhat planned and organized and somewhat free-flowing and intuitive.

One of my planner friends said her issue was motivation. She said, "I have no real excuse."

No judgment here. Please don't call yourself lazy or any similar word if you fall into this category.

I gave it some deep thought, and I think the motivation issue may arise because of being too hard on yourself. Here is a video with 2 quick tips to help you live the plan! Watch now! Continue reading "Live the Plan: 2 Easy Ways to Boost Motivation"

Living My Weekly Focus: Stewardship

In case this is new to you, each week I'm focusing on a word or idea, and this past week has been all about stewardship.

This was a fantastic focus for me. I considered whether decisions on what to do, buy, and experience was a wise use of my various resources.

Weekly Intention Focus for week of 1/1-7, 2017: Stewardship

It helped me be more thoughtful about bringing into my life experience elements that make me happy and use what I have well.

It affected me in little ways. For example, I was watching a movie I didn't enjoy, and rather than continue being dissatisfied watching it, I decided it wasn't entertaining and meant a poor use of my time resource. Had I been entertained, I would have continued.

I chose against a couple of purchases that, while cool, really wouldn't bring me closer to an experience I wanted, or happiness, or anything else.

What if everything you did moved you into a blissful life? How would that change things?

Don’t Just Plan: LIVE the plan Video tutorial

I have learned that a lot of people who love planning aren't that great about making their plans a reality. That loses the point of planning.

Now, I'm a plantser...half planner, half pantser (as in "seat of the pants" in case that didn't make sense). I get most of the things I set out to do done. Not all, of course. Life happens sometimes, but most.

So if you can allow the blind to lead you, watch this video!

Here are the resources I mention in the video: Continue reading "Don’t Just Plan: LIVE the plan Video tutorial"

Ronda’s Weekly Intention: What Do I Want to Experience? Jan 1-7, 2017

I'm starting off the year with a paper planner for the first time in decades. One thing I decided to do was to hold an intention for the week. This word, question, or idea will be front and center every time I go into my planner to play. I will hold and contemplate this intention throughout each day.

Right now, I'm putting the weekly focus intention in my the far left column of my weekly planner spread, just below the monthly calendar.

focus on: What do I want to experienceThis week's intention

What do I want to experience?

Each day, I will focus on the kinds of experiences I desire, whether in food, time with friends, people, vacations, things, or health.

I don't love exercise, but I love having vibrant health, so after each workout, that is my focus. I want to experience strength.

I am saving pictures of experiences I want to have, such as trips to Hawaii, Ireland and Scotland.

While looking at the photo of me kissing a dolphin, I relive one of the best moment of my life and know I want to have a similar experience again, in the wild this time.

So that's how I'm working with my intention.

Do you have a weekly focus? If so, how is it working for you Please comment below.

Need Help Deciding Your Planning Style?

If you'd asked me about my planning style a couple months ago, I would have wondered what in the world you were talking about. I hadn't used a paper planner since the '90s. I went to using Google Calendar for appointments (still do).

While briefly sharing my planner story here, I'll show you how you can choose your own planning style based on your needs.

Paper Planners: What Size and Style Do You Need?

When I was looking into paper planners, I was struggling to figure out what type I needed. I wanted it small, but not too small. At first, I didn't know what I really wanted to plan either.

Planner-Pic

If you look in the Planner Love category, you'll see posts covering all that. Today is all about size, because...well...size matters!

Too big is cumbersome. Too small is hard to write in. What's your "Goldy Locks" size?

I found this helpful infographic that shows sizes. Click the image or here to see the original source. This isn't my work.

I got a personal size planner, then decided that's good for carrying around, but not big enough to work well for me as someone with limited eyesight and a penchant for decorating my planner!

I got a Happy Planner. This graphic  doesn't have my Happy Planner in it, though. Those pages are 7 x 9.5.

I am (so far...and it's new...) keeping my Happy Planner at home and using it to track everything from the weather and moon phase to gratitude to weekly focus to my writing, blogging and social media schedule. I go through that in a different post, though.

How to decide what planner size you need

Getting the Most Out of Google Calendar: It’s Not Just for Appointments Anymore

I have mentioned it before, but in case you haven't met me...I SUCK at time. I mean, I can think I'll come up out of a project in 10 minutes to, say, have lunch with mo, but if I don't set a date and time, I may emerge a couple hours later, oblivious to the passing of time until something outside me brings it crashing down on me.

So I need an electronic calendar to poke me and make sure I know that in 15 inutes I need to be on a call, or walking over to Mom's for lunch, or starting the pressure cooker, or whatever.

I love using Google Calendar for keeping my time on time, and it's not just an appointment book anymore. There are lots of cool things to do with it..

Google Calendar

So sure, it's a regular ol' calendar, but I do a whole lot more with it... Continue reading "Getting the Most Out of Google Calendar: It’s Not Just for Appointments Anymore"

BLISSful Life: Paper or DIgital Planner?

How do you keep track of your day, the things you need to do, the appointments, and all the muchness of living Do you use a paper planner or an online calendar...or both?

I used to keep a paper planner back when I had jobs with meetings and trips, but I got away from it as an author. A couple months ago, I decided to switch things up and have a paper planner AND Google Calendar to help me keep my life BLISSful.

Make It So Star Trek TNG Graphic

I SUCK at time. I can think something happened yesterday and maybe it was 3 months ago. I may tell someone I'll be done in 10 minutes, then get wrapped up in a project (or writing a story) for hours.

That's just how I roll, like it or not. As a friend of mine says, "Time isn't even a magazine in my house." So I need to compensate.

The GREAT thing about online calendars

I use Google Calendar, and I love it. It's great for keeping me on track with specific times I need to do things like:

  • Writing contest . entry deadlines
  • Due dates
  • When to start getting ready or leave
  • Reminders (more on that soon).

I love Google Calendar. It's so versatile. I like the notifications, reminders, and goals available. I'll go into how I use it in a separate post. for now...

Here's what I love about Google Calendar in brief:

  • Color coding events (to match the purpose of the activity)
  • Customizable notifications beore the event
  • Ability to invite others.
  • Remibders
  • Goals
  • And it's free

And all that's great, but I decided I need to keep track of more in my life than just the time I need to do things. I wanted to keep track of things like moon phase, weather, what I accomplished, a weekly focus, gratitude and more. So I got a paper planner.

Here's a key question to help you decide how and why to plan, on paper or online: Continue reading "BLISSful Life: Paper or DIgital Planner?"
