Authors: Save Time & Auto-Post to Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter with NEW Social Jukebox

Authors have a lot to do.

  1. Write books.
  2. Edit said books.
  3. Proofread said books.
  4. Get said books off to alpha and beta readers.
  5. Seek publishing or set up self publishing...of yeah those books.
  6. And let us not forget...MARKET those books...
  7. and connect with readers...
  8. and do live in person &/or virtual events.

WHEW! That's an exhausting list!

Don't you love to save time and energy?

Well DUH! Of COURSE you do! Who doesn't. I mean...nobody is going to raise their hand and proclaim proudly, "I have NOTHING to do, so please, pile on more STUFF TO DO!"

Social media alone could devour 24/7 if you let it, and that will only account for a small percentage of your book sales anyway.

People tell me, "Ronda, you're EVERYWHERE? Do you sleep?"

Yes, I sleep. I'm everywhere because of some wonderful tricks and hacks As a matter of fact, I'm working on a book called 101 Tricks and Hacks for Writers right now. One of my favorite Cool Tools is in that book.

I know you're asking:

"How can I save time and energy on social media, Ronda?"

You probably feel like an exhausted hamster in a wheel, scurrying around to do this and that in a constant flurry of activity.

Exhausted-Hamster-in-a-Wheel

Slow down. Take a breath. I've got you. Check this out.

The 1-Post Problem

You write a blog post, upload a video, or whatever, and you share it once all over. Then what? Who has time to go back around every week or so and share one of your older posts?

That's the 1 post problem. It's hard to keep sharing your awesome past content.

Authors: How to Invite People to a Facebook Event

Facebook is a HUGE part of social media for authors. No matter what kind of event you're doing, you can set up a Facebook event and invite your friends and contacts.

  • Speaking
  • Reading from your book
  • Book signing live in person,
  • Book launch party
  • Webinar
  • Teleseminar
  • Virtual book tour

You want to do this from your FACEBOOK PAGE, not your profile.

  • A PAGE is for businesses, authors, etc. It says "Like" or "Liked" when you're on someone' else's
  • A profile is the personal presence EVERYONE on Facebook has. It's where you go when you login. It says "Add friend" or "friends" when you're on someone' else's

When you host an event,

  1. go to your author PAGE,
  2. click events, and click ADd Event,
  3. complete the information,
  4. then invite guests.

This short video shows you how to invite friends to a Facebook event. Watch the video.

Since every author needs social media and since I'm always reading articles and books to keep on top of things, I thought I'd share one of the excellent books about social media.

And it won't overwhelm you with hundreds of services you don't understand, either. Please take a close look at this book review and grab your copy of...

The Art of Social Media by Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick

The Art of Social Media by Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick

Authors: 21 Ways to Improve Your Social Media Marketing Strategy

As an author, you know you need to be in social media. That's NOT a news flash, is it?

You can't just barf out links to buy your book and expect people to fall all over themselves rushing to buy your book. That's obvious, right? Yet, you'd be surprised how often I see link-barfers wondering why their sales are lagging.

Book marketing isn't about being pushy. It's about building relationships and getting people excited about your book.

Here are 21 rules for an effective social media marketing strategy. The golden nugget is to be a person of value and share other people's good stuff too. Here are the rules... Continue reading "Authors: 21 Ways to Improve Your Social Media Marketing Strategy"

Book Marketing Skills Book Review: Social Media Just for Writers by Frances Caballo

I encountered author and social media Frances Caballo through her podcast of the same name. It's short, useful, and straight to the point. Based on that, I hadhigh expectations of her book. I'm happy to report that she did not disappoint. I'd recommend listening to it. Here's the link.

Review -  Social Media Just for Writers by Frances Caballo

Warning - this book COULD overwhelm you. It's not one of those how-to books  you'll want to read cover to cover. There is a LOT of info. It's like the writer's social media desk reference, teaching the networks, tools and helpful hints and tricks to master them.

With a table of contents several pages long, this will no doubt be clear to you right away. But fear not, because each chapter is broken down into nice "bite-sized" pieces.

The only thing I worry about with this book is that you'll be so inundated with the various tools, planners etc that you throw your hands up in the air and stick your head in the sand.

That said, it's an essential reference. You'll get not merely an overview of the various social networks and the tools to manage them, but  guidance on how to make the most of all of it. Nobody can predict which tools YOU will prefer, but with the listing and descriptions, you can check things out and make your best decisions.

Don't try to be in all networks. Pick one and get used to it, then branch out from there.

How Social Media Helps Authors Develop Your Author Platform: Author Speaker Mentor Ronda Del Boccio Featured in Vox Magazine

Social media offers huge opportunities for authors when you use the networks as a point of connection with readers rather than as bullhorn self-promotion platforms.

Ronda Del Boccio Tweets to the Top: Vox Magazine Article

It's such fun to get a phone call "out of the blue," as the saying goes, with an offer to be interviewed for a regional magazine. Free publicity - YEAH!

Vox Magazine out of Columbia College featured me in their article,  Here's an excerpt of the article

Ronda Del Boccio Tweets to the Top

For author Ronda Del Boccio, successful self-publishing starts with social media

On the rural outskirts of Branson, author Ronda Del Boccio has two cats and more than 7,000 Twitter followers to keep her company. Although Del Boccio has written two Amazon bestsellers, her number of followers comes from years of planning, testing and refining a formula, not her eight books.

Using social media, she created a self-marketing method in 2013 to attract her readers. Del Boccio bypasses the additional cost of a publisher and delivers her pages from the presses straight to the people.

Book Review for Authors: Using Twitter for Business by Paul Teague

Click for Member Home Page

Starting now, each month on the last Thursday I'll do a review of a book of value and interest to authors.

Do you use Twitter?

Do you like it?  Does it drive you nuts?

At my last live event, several authors came up and said one of these things regarding Twitter:

  • "It's so stupid."
  • "It's a waste of time."
  • "I just don't get it."
  • "I don't understand why it's important."

Stuff Made Simple Guide

OK, it CAN be a stupid waste of time. But so can nearly anything else in life, if yu think about it. The trick is knowing how to make it work for you.

Readers of many genres are on Twitter looking for their next good read. you want to be there too. But like anything else, there's a learning curve. There are los of ways to NOT have Twitter work well for you.

Twitter, as Paul Teague points out in his book Using Twitter for Business, is a valuable piece of web real estate. That doesn't mean yui need to spend hours and days messing with it, though.

It really helps if you can have someone show you the ropes, as they say, without you having to fumble around. Is this book a guide I would recommend? Continue reading "Book Review for Authors: Using Twitter for Business by Paul Teague"

A couple benefits of having multiple contributors to a borad:

Ozarks Writers League Cancels Ronda Del Boccio Presentation on Social Media for Authors at the Last Minute

Click for Member Home Page

I was scheduled to give a presentation titled "Social Media Quickie for Authors: Get in - Get Done - and Get Back to Writing" at the Ozarks Writers League (OWL) quarterly conference at Ozarks Technical Community College in Hollister, Missouri this morning (Feb. 21, 2015).

canceled

I got a message just after 8 this morning from past president Karen Nelson that the president, Casey Cowan, asked her to inform me my presentation was canceled.

While nasty weather conditions exist, nobody called, texted, emailed or otherwise messaged to ask whether I would be able to make it. Since I live in the area, I did not choose to stay at the hotel. As a blind non-driver, I had arranged transportation and was fully prepared to give the interactive presentation I had spent considerable time and energy preparing..

The schedule was reorganized for a delayed start time and supposedly "abbreviated." Interestingly, one talk was ADDED to the event.

Nonfiction author Karen Nelson is doing an unscheduled talk about characters. She describes herself on her website as: "a writer and teacher in Southwest Missouri, specializing in educational and nonfiction works. "

From the rearranged and "abbreviated "schedule:

 2:15 - 3:00 - Session 2

  •   (planned) Velda Brotherton - "You're Never Too Old For Love"
  • (planned)    Pam Foster - Critique Group
  • (NEW!  Karen Nelson - "Creative Characters"

While the official reason will be weather, the late start and the perceived necessity to use the speakers who were on-site, the addition of an unplanned talk in this scaled-back schedule appears suspicious.

Numerous OWL members attending the conference expressed excitement over getting help from me with their social media.

Could some more sinister forces be at play? ou decide.

3 Board Members Resign on same Day

On a related note, I was a board member until I resigned last week over a variety of issues, including  bullying, censorship and abuse of leadership.  OWL is a 501(c)3  organization subject to all the laws and legalities of any nonprofit. Three board members all resigned within an hour over these issues.

Ozarks Writers League Conference Kicked Out of Private Christian College for Planned Sex Talks

OWL got kicked out of its 30-year meeting place at College of the Ozarks, a private Christian college because of the racy nature of some of the workshops.  While some of the League leadership called it censorship,  the college is privately funded and not subject to the same regulations as publicly funded colleges.

I say their house, their rules. I don't blame C of O one bit. I did not approve the topics and was not involved in the process of finding speakers or naming their talks. Had this been passed through the entire board VS a subset, the negative publicity could potentially have been averted.

Though I was supposedly the Publicity Coordinator, the president and his chosen did not involve me or some other board members in any of the planning of speakers, topics, or response to the College of the Ozarks decision.

Thankfully, with the ease of technology and the fact I have the tools available, nobody has to miss out on getting help!
