Ozarks Writers League Writing Inspired Conference Nov 18-19, 2016

No matter where you live, there's probably a group for writers. I highly recommend being involved, as it will inspire you and give you a kick in the seat to sit down and write. This month my regional group, Ozarks Writers League,  hosts our quarterly conference. The theme this time is "Writing Inspired."

Sometimes I am super excited about the speakers. Sometimes, not. But I still go. I've been surprised more than once by how interesting and relevant  subject ended up being for me.

Even if the topics at your local conference don't excite you, go anyway. It's a great way to connect with others who engage in that mostly solitary act of writing. If you have books, you may be able to have a book table. I will have copies of my best selling peace book The Peace Seed. I've donated 1500 of these little books to prisons to hopefully bring some peace and unity to troubled people.

Here's a photo of the handmade card. You can follow me on Instagram too!

If you're in the Branson area, come join us at the Honeysuckle Inn Saturday, Nov. 19th. Jemma and I will be there.

Here are the speakers:

How Can Authors Use Google+ Hangouts for Book marketing?

How Can Authors Use Google+ Hangouts for Book Marketing?

I'm just beginning to use Google+ Hangouts to promote my own books and to work with authors.

Cover of the #1 Best Seller The Peace Seed

maybe you're like me, and you're a little shaky on the whole hangouts thing. For me, part of the issue is that I'm mostly blind, and while Google does some great things for accessibility, Hangouts and HangoutsOnAir could use some work.

(BTW If you know anyone inside Google, have them reach out to me and I will GLADLY help make it more accessible for the blind!)

Well, I've never met a technology I couldn't manage eventually, with a little persistence, patience and poise; it's just a matter of “making friends with G+ Hangouts.”

Along those lines, I decided to host my first live HangoutOnAir Saturday, September 21st  for #PeaceDay The International Day of Peace. Click to join the live reading from The Peace Seed.

Here are some more examples to spark your imagination:

Toni Morrison Does First-Ever Google Plus Hangout Book Signing

Feb. 25, 2013

Nobel Prize-winning novelist Toni Morrison will participate in a first-of-its-kind digital book signing and a Google+ Hangout on Air at the Google New York offices.

Using a Wacom tablet, Morrison will sign digital versions of her newest national bestseller, Home, published by the Knopf Doubleday Group, and will be signing the Vintage Books paperback edition of Home for Google employees.

The live Hangout celebrates the paperback release of Home, as well as the culmination of Black History Month events sponsored by the Black Googler Network. The event starts at 3 p.m. EST on February 27, 2013.

During the Hangout Morrison will chat with book clubs around the country. This is the first nation-wide event that Morrison has done with book clubs. The Hangout will be livestreamed on Google+ and YouTube and promoted on Google Play. Fans can watch the Hangout in real time and submit questions electronically.

Here's another example of Google+ Hangouts for building relationships with readers:

Kevin Kelly used Google Hangouts to promote his book:

Samantha Shannon's new dystopian book The Bone Season has taken the world by storm, and her book is a Today Show book of the month. Notice how they get people to post questions on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, with which more people are familiar:

Join author +Samantha Shannon and +TODAY's +Natalie Morales on Monday, September 16 for a Google+ Hangout to discuss Shannon’s debut novel “The Bone Season” -- the first TODAY Book Club pick. Shannon who, at only 21 years of age, is already taking the literature world by storm with “The Bone Season,” will be chatting with viewers about her gripping dystopian novel.

Got a question about “The Bone Season” for Samantha Shannon? Send your questions to Facebook, Twitter and Google+ using the hashtag #TODAYBookClub .

How might YOU as an author incorporate Google Hangouts into your author platform? Here are a few ideas:

  • Reading a chapter from your book.
  • Updating fans throughout the writing process and asking questions.
  • Conducting a virtual book tour like Kevin did.
  • Hosting book clubs (a twist on what both Samantha and Kevin did).
  • Having people act out a scene from your book as a hangout.

Full truth here…I could use some help using Google+ Hangouts to their fullest potential. And just as I was thinking about this a few days ago, I got a call from Mark HarrisHe and Alex Mandossian.asked me to be 1 of 10 leaders on a mega hangout!

This is exciting, because they will help me make better use of Hangouts, and of course you're part of my TRIBE, so you'll find out as well!

The possibilities are endless – and you can find out more Thursday night on a Mega Hangout.

Join the Mega Hangout WriteOnPurpose.com/mega. –  and watch for a very special offer at the end. I already jumped in, and I highly recommend YOU do the same! We'll take the journey together!
